TARS, a Chinese AI robotics startup, has secured $455 million in a record pre-A funding round, marking one of the largest early-stage investments in the humanoid robotics space. The substantial capital injection reflects growing investor appetite for AI-powered robotics companies, particularly those developing humanoid platforms. This funding positions TARS to accelerate its robotics development and compete in the rapidly expanding AI robotics market.
China Robot Funding Falls 40% as IPO Rules Tighten
Shanghai has announced an action plan to deploy 8,000 humanoid robots in factories by 2028, alongside building 500 advanced smart factories and expanding AI applications in manufacturing. The plan was unveiled at the 26th China International Industry Fair, where Unitree chairman Wang Xingxing predicted that physical AI could reach a tipping point within one to two years. Separately, UBTECH has begun operating a 10,000-unit-per-year humanoid robot smart factory in Liuzhou where robots build robots.
