Toyota CUE7 is the seventh-generation basketball-shooting robot from Toyota, unveiled April 2026. Standing 2.19 m tall and weighing 74 kg (38% lighter than CUE6), it uses a wheeled inverted two-wheel base. It employs a hybrid reinforcement learning and model predictive control (RL+MPC) system to learn from misses and adapt shots in real time. Can shoot from 25 meters. Toyota uses CUE as a testbed for embodied AI and motion planning research transferable to manufacturing.
Primary use case: Robotics research testbed for vision-based target acquisition, real-time trajectory planning, and precise force control; demonstrated via basketball shooting

Toyota and Honda are trialing humanoid robots at their Japanese factories, previewing their technologies at the 2026 Japan Mobility Show. Honda demonstrated a four-fingered AI-powered Avatar Robot hand for wire harness installation and is rethinking future car designs for robot assembly, while Toyota showcased its CUE7 basketball robot as a test bed for its ELEY worker robot being tested for parts supply and final inspection. Japanese automakers are racing to compete with U.S. and Chinese humanoid robot programs, with Toyota planning ¥1 trillion ($6.3 billion) in annual robot spending from 2028.
