Xiaomi Engineers Robotic Hand From 1,827 Factory SOPs: China Spy Law Travels With It

Xiaomi developed a 324-gram, 21-DoF bionic hand with 26 motors, roughly 1,500 tactile points, and forearm-mounted tendon actuation, grounding its design in 1,827 automotive-factory SOPs rather than generic dexterity benchmarks. Xiaomi's analysis reported substantially better stable-grasp performance than simpler 6-to-15-DoF manipulators, but the hand remains undeployed and lacks public pricing, availability, independent reliability testing, and a security audit. The article also warns that Chinese intelligence and data-security laws, along with U.S. restrictions on foreign robotic devices, could prevent Western automotive manufacturers from adopting it.

China’s Fastest Humanoid Robot Has A Bigger Goal Than Speed

Fourier Intelligence, a Chinese exoskeleton company, has pivoted to humanoid robotics with the GR-1, which claims to be China's fastest walking humanoid robot at 5 km/h. The company raised $170M in a Series B in 2023 and is targeting mass production of 100 robots in 2024 at $50,000-$70,000 per unit, focusing initially on healthcare assistance rather than industrial applications.
