ALPHA (Automated Litter Processing Humanoid Assistant) is a wheeled humanoid robot developed by UK-based TeknTrash Robotics, built on hardware from RealMan Robotics (China) and adapted for British recycling operations. Standing 200 cm tall, it is deployed in waste material recovery facilities to sort recyclables on live conveyor belts, trained through VR headsets worn by human workers whose movements are recorded and used to train the robot via NVIDIA GR00T and IsaacLab. Equipped with hyperspectral vision and human-dexterous grippers, it operates around the clock in hazardous environments where the UK waste sector fatality rate is 17 times the all-industry average. TeknTrash is piloting ALPHA with Sharp Group at a Rainham, East London facility processing 2,800 tonnes of waste per week, with plans for rollout across 1,000 plants in Europe.
