ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility) is a landmark bipedal humanoid robot created by Honda, first introduced in 2000 after 15 years of development dating back to 1986. Standing 130 cm tall and weighing 54 kg, ASIMO was the first humanoid robot to run with a continuous stride and could walk, climb stairs, kick a ball, and pour drinks. Honda halted development in 2018 to focus on practical robotics applications, and ASIMO made its final public appearance in March 2022 after over two decades as a global symbol of humanoid robotics.

Asimov.inc has achieved improved sim2real transfer with their Asimov v1 humanoid robot through hardware optimization. The company is democratizing access by open-sourcing the complete mechanical design and providing a DIY kit at cost price. Full specifications and build instructions are available at manual.asimov.inc/v1.
Following the launch of the "Here Be Dragons" DIY kit, Menlo Research has released a comprehensive guide detailing the mechanical, electronic, and simulation hurdles of building a 1.2-meter humanoid at home.
Day 176 of construction of Asimov, an open-source humanoid robot project, is shared to the OpenSourceHumanoids Reddit community. The robot features the ability to walk backwards. This appears to be a personal/independent open-source robotics project rather than a commercial venture.
